For the past five years or so, gray has been the hot “new” neutral in interiors. But the color experts at Sherwin-Williams say there is a new color that’s poised to take over: Poised Taupe. In fact, the color has been named the company’s 2017 Color of the Year.

A modern take on a timeless classic, the shade signals a new direction for neutrals. They’re beginning a transition from monochromatic gray to a more complex blend of taupe and brown. What makes Poised Taupe special is that it perfectly blends warm and cool tones together into one incredibly versatile color. “Poised Taupe celebrates everything people love about cool gray as a neutral, and also brings in the warmth of brown, taking color to an entirely new level. Not cool or warm, not gray or brown, Poised Taupe is a weathered, woodsy neutral bringing a sense of coziness and harmony that people are seeking,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams.

Here at Marble & Granite, Inc, we think this versatile and welcoming color partners perfectly with shades of cream, white, and pearl. Here are a few natural stone products that we think would look simply stunning with Poised Taupe:

We think it’s nice to see color trends moving away from stark, cold and barren into combinations that show dimension and complexity. A beautiful blend of earthen brown with conservative gray, Poised Taupe is not only neutral, but it is also incredibly subtle.
