Not long ago,
Angie's List polled pros to find out what the most popular countertops are for remodels. Their results showed that "Currently, trends in kitchen countertops favor the most durable, affordable and aesthetically pleasing materials. Experts agree granite is the most requested material for countertops in today's remodels." And while granite remains king when it comes to countertops, this beautiful and durable natural stone is enjoyed by homeowners, commercial business owners and designers in many other ways, as well.
Single granite slabs or portions of slabs leftover from other projects can be easily applied to other pieces of furniture to transform them into gorgeous custom pieces. A granite desk, for instance, will be able to hold up to almost anything while also adding elegance, sophistication and a touch of earthiness to the space. A custom designed granite desk will be easy to maintain and will last for years to come; it can even become a family heirloom to be passed on from one generation to the next.
To show you the aesthetic and functional value that can be achieved with a custom desk topped with granite, here are a few examples we came across on the popular design inspiration site,
Houzz.
In this example, granite was used in the kitchen to create a
small, traditional style desk area; this is a wonderful way to make use of this space while continuing the aesthetic of the kitchen by using the same granite as the kitchen island and countertops.
Of course, a larger granite desk with wood base also looks spectacular in a commercial or residential office, study or library as well. We love this office with both the granite desk and matching granite coffee table.
